Originally co-founded and established in 1998 by Nate Fulton, Calvin Harris, Kent Barnwell, Ron Lee, Kenny Harris, and John Thompson, the group was first known simply as Temple of Funk. Built on a shared passion for authentic funk, soul, and live musicianship, the band quickly developed a reputation for delivering high-energy performances and rich, timeless sound with the help of female vocalist Raiena Graham.
Over the years, Temple of Funk evolved while staying true to its musical roots. In 2025, original members Kent Barnwell and Zavier Barrs reimagined and revitalized the group, expanding its vision and sound for a new generation. Today, known as Philly’s Own Temple of Funk, the band blends classic influences with modern flair, continuing to honor its legacy while captivating audiences locally and internationally. Comprised of talented musicians ranging in age from 24 to 65, the band fuses seasoned experience with fresh, contemporary energy. This unique blend creates a rich, layered sound that resonates with audiences of all ages, bridging the gap between classic and modern music.
